Feeling Golden

In this podcast, I, Marisa, am joined by fellow Girl Scout, Kassidy. We talk about my Gold Project. My project was to organize a Creek Cleanup and educate members of the public and Girl Scouts about the importance of keeping our environment clean with a series of presentations. I led 25 volunteers in cleaning a creek in a disadvantaged neighborhood. I took pictures of the creek before and after the cleanup. We made a big difference in the creek and land surrounding the creek. We picked up 64 bags of trash and recycling and many pounds of miscellaneous trash like tires, lawn chairs, rugs, buckets, toys, a bike, etc.

"Sow What?" A GS Journey

In this episode, we talk about 3 of the activities we did to earn our Senior "Sow What?" Journey. To learn about locally grown food we visited a Farmer's Market where we sampled various produce, cheeses, cookies and apple cider. We also talked to the farmers about what it is like to run a farm. We shared a meal and toured a "green" pizzeria that was committed to using locally grown foods and environment friendly practices. We also hosted a Brownie Bridging event where the girls earned their "Food Power" badge while learning about making healthy choices, the food pyramid, and hunger in our communities. The girls were treated to snacks we prepared using recipes from the Sow What book. They wrote a letter to the President and contributed food items to a local pantry.
